2025 [PI] Chemistry of Fragrances
Delivery Method: E. In-Person At Science Centre

Course ID: 25-E012-7

Have you ever wondered why some smells are more pleasant, or why some smell smells stronger than others??

Join us in this workshop as we take a nosedive into the chemistry of fragrances and understand why and how they work through a variety of hands-on activities!

Based on what you learnt, you will also be making your very own personalised scent diffuser.

Please note that Science Centre exhibitions will be closed on Mondays except school and public holidays. The Kinetic Garden, the Ecogarden and lab lessons for schools are available as per normal. We thank you for your understanding.

  1. Exploring the particulate nature of matter by observing and explaining the diffusion of fragrance particles in air.
  2. Analyse and understand some factors affecting the volatility and diffusion rate of fragrance particles.
  3. Identify and describe some common applications of fragrances in our everyday lives.

2025 [PI] Diffusion Cloud Chamber
Delivery Method: E. In-Person At Science Centre

Course ID: 25-F002-7

What does meteorology have to do with particle physics? In this workshop, participants will learn how a serendipitous observation led to the development of the cloud chamber particle detector by Charles Wilson (Nobel prize 1927), according to Lord Rutherford the most wonderful and original instrument in scientific history". Exploiting concepts such as condensation, evaporation, and supersaturation, participants will build their own cloud chambers and observe some of the natural ionising radiation surrounding us.

2025 Organic Solar Cells
Delivery Method: E. In-Person At Science Centre

Course ID: 25-G008-1

The advent of solar cells in 1883 by Charles Fritts was the beginning of the vast advancement of methods to harness the renewable energy as a form of clean energy. In the 1990s, the notion to mimic photosynthesis has led to the development of Organic Solar Cells. This technology replaces chlorophyll in green plants with organic dyes(such as blueberry extract) and uses other electrolytes and catalysts to simulate the internal environment of a leaf. In this workshop, students will fabricate and assemble an organic solar cell. Using ourin-housekit, students will perform characterization of their solar cell and plot a graph to identify the maximum power of the solar cell.

2026 [Gallery Pathway] Ecogarden Trail (Primary)
Delivery Method: E. In-Person At Science Centre

Course ID: 26-A017-1

The Ecogarden, short for ecology garden, is a living outdoor laboratory with a diverse variety of plants to observe and many types of animals to find. The plants here receive no special care. No attempt is made to control pests except for occasional pruning, mowing and necessary replanting. Thus there are many habitats where animals can find suitable niches for themselves, providing a suitable setting for ecological studies. The Ecogarden is divided into many different areas showcasing a variety of plants. From our local king of fruits, the durian, to the common vegetables that you get in the market, take a walk around nature and discover more about the plants that you commonly see.

Please note that for Non-member Private/International Schools, separate Admission Tickets are required. See T&Cs in your Booking Confirmation email for details.
